Doctor draft #2

Internal debate

What Would the Doctor do?

What is a problem?

What is a solution?

Me; The deer eat all the flowers in my garden.

Doctor: you have deer in your garden. That is fantastic! They such large fuzzy ears you know. There is nothing else like them in the galaxy and only a few pockets of wild ones left on planet earth.

Me: Doctor they eat all of my flowers all of them. In addition, I love flowers their cheerful and beautiful and are much more fantastic then fuzzy deer.

Doctor: It is true that flowers have a powerful effect on the mind. Something about them shows beauty and love they lift up people from the dark places and bring light and life into their souls.

Me: They eat everything. Why do they eat everything?

Doctor: perhaps they were …hungry ….I get hungry. Brilliant Now I am hungry.

Me: the point is the deer and I am non-compatible I hate them and you cannot change my mind.

Doctor: that is illogical and all in your head. It is your own prejudice.

Me: I just want a garden where if I plant something and it grows a deer will not eat it.

Doctor: then plant things they do not like to eat.

Me: they will eat anything except onions.

Doctor: there you go. Problem solved. Plant a garden full of onions.

Me: I do not want a garden full of onions; I want one full of roses.

Doctor: roses are special.

Me: I wish deer were carnivores.

Doctor: so you would rather live in a neighborhood full of carnivores that eat meat… than one full of vegetarians who eat roses.

Me:Yes, roses are much more important than meat.

Doctor: you realize that meat includes human flesh don't you?

Me: then we would be justified in defending ourselves and shooting them

Doctor: that is disgusting. No guns .I has a rule and it is no guns

Me: we would never get a permit any way.

Me: I know lets lure all to a trap filled with tulips. The tulips will drug them and they will all fall asleep from eating drugged tulips. We will pack them up in a truck, drive 500 miles east, and drop them off in the wilderness.

Doctor So your going to drug them throw in the back a truck and kidnap them and then abandon them in the wilderness.

Me: yep simple and effective.

Doctor : Humans that's so selfish you could be so better and willing to share the environment with other creatures on earth instead of destroying yourselves and ripping everything apart.

Me: I will not accept the deer the only option I have left is to separate the deer from my environment. Release them in to a wilderness full of their natural predators and have them rejoin the circle of life.

Doctor: now you are just quoting the lion king.

Me: the lion king is cool. My point is supported by Mufasa king of the pride lands. The deer belong in the circle of life not living in my backyard eating flowers and getting fat.

The paper I wrote

Michelle Walker

Basic Writing

Learning with Honor

Some students on campus complain about the learning model and the honor code, "The learning model makes classes too confusing or a waste of time." "The honor code is a list of radical rules that have nothing to do with the gospel." There are a few schools of thought on how to answers these complaints. Some people point out bluntly "If you don't like it leave" or "If you can't handle it then you shouldn't be here." I believe in converting these murmurers. The Learning Model and the honor code are an example for effective living and learning. We can follow the principles in each and apply them rest of our lives. The honor code and learning model at BYUI are essential to our continued success as a university. Without the honor code and the learning model, we would fall apart. When we truly understand the learning model and the honor code, we become lifelong learners and disciple leaders.

The student honor office has a wonderful visual called the honor code map. The map shows different zones of a student's relationship or understanding of the honor code. The zones are ignorance, discipleship, hypocrisy and disobedience. Most complainers land in the zone of ignorance. Those in the zone of ignorance simply do not understand the importance of the honor code. The honor code creates a unique feeling of safety and security on our campus. I have many friends who attend excellent universities. At these universities, theft is rampant; substance abuse is accepted and people's behavior and personal grooming is often not just offensive to the eyes but the nose as well. I am so grateful to attend a university that expects cleanliness and does not tolerate pot cigarettes alcohol or other gross and illegal activities. The honor codes demands a higher code of conduct with respect to the campus and its sacred nature. The standards for dress and grooming are those expected of disciples of the Lord. Every student on campus has signed a commitment to keep the honor code. Each of us should ask ourselves, am I living in the way I promised to live?

Being prepared for class enables students to learn more because they have already studied they are ready to learn from their teacher. Throughout your life, the time you spend studying the gospel or serving your family is preparation. There will be others who do not understand your need to prepare. Like the people of old, they will say, "Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die". When we stand before the lord prepared and ready for his teaching we know the importance of being able to be ready. The Boy Scout motto is to "Be Prepared". The scouts diligently practice for every situation from survival in the wilderness to electronics. We should always ask ourselves if we are ready for what comes next. In life, we need to be ready for more surprises than just pop quizzes.

When we use the learning model here at BYU Idaho, we teach one another. If children in a classroom are able to apply the principles in real life, and then explain the principal to one another, the teacher has not only taught the subject matter but the skill for them to teach others. By teaching one another, we are all fully participating in the lesson and serving one another. We become a community by teaching and working with one another. You have holes in your knowledge that you do not recognize until you try to teach someone else. You may think you know all the words to a song, until, you try to perform it on the karaoke machine and realize, it turns out you only know the chorus. It was not until you tried to share it that you realized you did not know all the words. I think that this method works a lot better than a lecture where no one talks except the professor. Personally, I can remember lectures well but I feel I learn more by applying and teaching the material than from the lecture. When learning from the lecture I simply remember the knowledge taught. From teaching one another, I have applied the lesson to life.

Ponder and prove this piece is more personal as you ask questions and reflect on what you have learned. After you have completed a course, it is tempting to wipe what you have learned from your mind as useless information and forget about it. Always think instead, what did I get out the course how has it taught me? As you think about the material from the last lesson, you are reviewing what have learned. This prepares you for the next lesson and brings the model full circle.

As we grow to understand the learning model and the honor code, we can become truly converted. We have learned to be humble and are ready to learn. This is the first step on the road to becoming a lifelong learner and disciple leader.

A Paper!

I wrote a paper ! and Did all right on it despite my anxiety and paranoia about writing in the past. Despite my borrowed laptop crashing and refusing to reboot (yes I am Cursed computers hate me) I have manged to write a 3 page paper wow impressive yes I think so. despite in the past that I wrote 14 page papers. I still think my recent triumph in finishing a paper and using correct grammar was astronomical. I am making progress some day I will be a confidant writer who writes all the time and is published ! Admit it my life story is Hilarious and would be a new york times best seller. Current tittle Ideas for different novels and memoirs included but not limited to. My Fat Cat. A Distracted Life. The Bloodfire Chronicles. Growing up in a Time Machine. Dream Keepers. The Monochromatic Zoo. Timeless . Wonderladian. Citizen of everywhere. the unsuspected spy.
awesomeness personified in Mr. Darcy and other cool guys.
admit it I could totally be the next Oprah being blond wouldn't really hurt my ratings would it. yes I know Oprah hasn't written a ton of books yet but hear this prediction she will yet at least 20 I bet you by the time Oprah is eighty she will have written she biographies and the next American classic plus six picture books empowering young children . yes sir It is guaranteed. I would also aspire to write as well as Diane Wynne Jones! but that is a much more daunting task and ambition then being the next Oprah. trust me.

Alice

All things wonderlandian and certainly all things Alice fascinate me. Karyn and I went to Salem to see Alice's adventures underground. I got lost on the way there and Karyn was standing in the lobby looking so worried about me I think they held the show just for us! Because I was, at least 7 minutes late and they had not started yet (yes, I think they were waiting for us). It was very whimsical and I liked it a lot. The set was painted in different shades of gray but was absolutely fascinating full of little details and shelves and drawers that opened up into music boxes and tables. Plus clocks and teapots! The interesting thing was that Alice did not have to go anywhere to get to wonderland it just happened all around her it was all a sort of existential journey. Still hilarious and marvelous acting with excellent switching between personalities for a great ensemble cast. I am obsessed with Alice so I kept up very well with what was going on but I think someone who had not seen any Alice before would be very lost. Why is a raven like a writing desk? I would ask Edgar Allan Poe wouldn't you?
